Olympic Couture

 

 The  Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympics (BOCOG) and China Fashion Association presented “Olympic Beijing, Fashion China”. The creations were originated from costumes in ancient China’s state of Chu during the Warring States period (475 B.C. to 221 B.C.)

  

Included in the fashion show was a combination of fur coats, crossed collar dresses, narrow sleeves, leather accessories and showy brocades. Definitely an unexpected spectacle for a sports audience, but very entertaining because of its extravagance.

Milla Jovovich decides to bow out of the fashion design world… 

 

The former model and Resident Evil star is giving up her well-received clothing line Jovovich-Hawk. In the latest issue of Lucky Magazine, Jovovich reveals she’s leaving the line she started with fellow model Carmen Hawk. “It’s like, When one door closes… I’m in a time of rediscovery, from my career to my personal style,” she told the magazine. 

 

 

Established in 2003, the vintage-inspired Jovovich-Hawk line enjoyed much success amongst fashion editors and fashion savvy celebrities. Their first collection was carried exclusively at Fred Segal and sold out almost instantly. With an impressive starting point, the design duo continued to collect praises from the fashion world with Vogue magazine saying of the line, “[it has a] girl-about-town cult status most designers spend years trying to achieve.” 

 

 

Jovovich-Hawk was nominated as finalist for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2006, participated in the FashionWeekLive tour in 2007 along with Anne Klein and Badgley Mischka, showed their collection at the New York Mercedes Benz Fall ‘08 Fashion Week in February 2008 and released a diffusion line for Target in March of the same year.

It is hard to imagine why Milla Jovovich would just let go on such a successful designing career. Maybe it was only an adventure for her, and she’s now ready for a new one.
